Suvham Agarwal (Batch of 2022)

Rome wasn't built in a day. The web of everything is built around us gradually. Many skills are accretive in nature. Preparation has to meet opportunities. Having received an offer of employment from Deloitte, I wish to share my experience and journey to benefit others. The recruitment process began with shortlisting candidates through screening our resumes, followed by three more rounds.

Before preparing yourself for an interview, it is essential to read the job description provided by the company for the position you will be interviewed for. The job description provided by the employer gives me a clear map of the skills required for the post, and it can also help me prepare for the interview. Seeing the job description, I can guess the kind of questions that might be asked during the interview and prepare myself to answer those.

The first level of evaluation comprises six tests, i.e. Versant Training. This tests our listening and speaking skills. Apart from the training provided by the institute, one can listen to podcasts from different countries to acquaint oneself with different accents. Versant is not only about hearing but also speaking fluently. I used Google Assistant to check whether I pronounced it accurately and at what pace I should talk.

We moved towards the business proficiency test that tests our knowledge of Accounting, Logical reasoning and Excel. It is vital to brush up on your basic understanding of accounting. Whatever I have learnt during my school days, graduate-level and post-graduate level. I kept up with a regular logical reasoning practice, and I chose the tricky questions that helped me hone my skills. As for Excel, I practised regularly by doing tasks on it. The Excel Certification course taught me from scratch to reach an advanced level. Whenever any assignment was given in the PGPM, I used those formulae and keyboard shortcuts. Besides, I also used various sites such as Examveda and the Amigoz to check my knowledge and improve my learning.

The last stage of the interview consisted of three rounds, i.e. HR round, the Technical round, and the final round. The first of the discussions was the HR round. It consists of the usual questions that require a candidate to introduce herself, explain the choice of applying for a role at Deloitte, the interest in the organisation, and the roadmap for five years. When you prepare to answer such a question, make sure you thoroughly read about the company profile, achievements, work culture, and reforms. You should have an established career objective in that path. Definitely, you should expect further questions following your answers, so make sure you stay in command of the interview. Moving towards the Technical round, one should expect questions on Accounting, Finance, Excel and Taxation. The last interaction focused entirely on your CV, work experience, internship, certificates, projects, and extracurricular activities. It is essential how you relate all these to portray yourself as the best fit for the role.
